Every party guide builds toward one moment you get to choose. When the room is ready, and you'll know when that is, the lamps go low. Someone turns the big light off without being asked. The child whose night it is holds the envelope, and everybody else stops moving.
Then it opens, and 6 children lean over one page at the same time. For about 20 seconds nobody says anything at all. That is the part they describe to their teacher on Monday, and the part you will still be able to picture in 10 years.

Pajamas, movie and lounge time, snacks, bedtime, a slow morning, breakfast and pickup, all planned the same way the evening was. Use it when guests are staying over.
Not every night needs the overnight. Use it when guests are staying and skip it when they're not.
We have been that parent too.
We started this because we kept watching lovely, generous hosts spend the night on their feet, inventing the next thing, refereeing the one that went wrong, and missing the bit they had actually been looking forward to. Writing the night down in advance is the only thing that fixes that. So we wrote it and handed it over so you get to be in the room for it.

How the night actually goes.
The guests arrive and something is already waiting for each of them, with their own name on it. The start of the night looks after itself. When the energy climbs too high you know exactly what comes next, and when it drops you know that too. Nobody asks what you are doing later, because everyone can feel that the night is going somewhere.
At the moment you choose, the room goes quiet and leans over one page. By the end of the night they are whispering about the bit that surprised them. And you are on the sofa with them, watching it happen, in the room rather than in the kitchen inventing the next thing.
Sure, you could build the night from 17 Google searches and 15 Pinterest boards. It would still be a good night. Kids are generous like that. But why would you want to?
