At 8:30 PM, once the light has started to go, the children open the sealed fold-and-tuck envelope marked do not open until dusk. Inside is the last thing left behind in the garden and the instruction for the wish blossom, which they carry outside and complete together.

  • Experience Cards — Fairy mission cards handed out through the afternoon, each one a small kind or careful task rather than a race, plus keepsake cards to fill in and take home.

Questions about Fairy Garden Sleepover

No. It is written to work indoors first and outdoors as a bonus. A corner of a living room with a canopy, a low table, some foliage and lanterns reads as a fairy garden to a child completely — and indoors gives you control over the light, the weather and the mess. If you do have outdoor space, tell us and the plan uses it for the afternoon and brings everything inside before dusk, with a wet-weather version alongside so you are never deciding at four o'clock.

Usually yes, because the night does not require belief — it requires playing along, and children are far better at that than adults expect. For a child who has quietly moved on, we shift the framing so the fairies are a story the group is in on together rather than a fact they are being asked to accept, and we weight the evening toward the making, the tea and the treasure hunting. If they have loudly moved on, tell us and we will point you at the tween edition, which drops the fairies almost entirely.

Both are planned for and you choose. The plan gives a paper and fabric route that costs less, survives the whole night, packs home safely and can be made in advance, and a fresh-flower route with a short list of inexpensive, non-toxic, allergy-friendly stems and guidance on preparing them the day before. Most hosts mix the two — fresh where it will be seen and touched, paper where it needs to last. Tell us about pollen or plant allergies in the group and we plan the paper route by default.
