At 8:30 PM the sealed Mystery Envelope is opened and the calm part of the night begins. Canopies are lit, sleep masks are handed out, and after one shared quiet activity the group goes around the room so that every child hears something kind said out loud about who they are.

The feeling at the heart of this one is slowing down together. Everything in it exists because it feels nice — warm, soft, funny, unhurried — and nothing in it is about how anyone looks.

The plan specifies children's or sensitive-skin products only, and everything is chosen for how it feels rather than for what it claims to do — a warm towel because warm towels are lovely, a cold sheet mask because it is funny, a nail colour because choosing a colour you like is fun. You buy the products yourself so you stay in full control of what touches your guests' skin, and the plan tells you what type to look for and what to avoid. Patch-test on the inside of a wrist before use, keep everything well away from eyes, and let an adult handle anything warm. Yes — genuinely, and it is one of the nicest nights we write for a mixed or all-boy group. The framing is relaxation, not beauty: dim lights, a den of cushions, warm towels, a mocktail bar to run, a good playlist, silly mask photographs and prompt cards that get a group of friends talking properly. Boys tend to arrive slightly sceptical and are entirely committed by the foot soak. Tell us your guest list at the questionnaire stage and the language, the stations and the favors are written for the actual group coming — nothing in it assumes who is in the room.

Tell us at the questionnaire stage and it is designed in rather than worked around. We ask specifically about eczema and other skin conditions, fragrance sensitivity and nut-oil allergies, because those are the three that matter most here — many common lotions and massage oils are nut-based. The plan then names the product types to choose and the ones to avoid, and builds in the patch test, short contact time and washing-off step. Any station that involves a product always has a no-product version alongside it, so a child who cannot or would rather not take part still has something to do at the same table, at the same moment, with the same passport stamp. No child is ever left sitting out.

It is calm, but it is not thin — and the running order is what stops it drifting. There are enough stations to keep a group moving for hours, the mocktail bar sits deliberately in the middle to lift the energy, the bracelet and craft table gives busy hands something to do, and the talking rounds are the part children remember for years.
