At 8:30 PM, the house lights come up for the show.

At 8:30 PM the sealed Mystery Envelope is opened and the running order for the final show is revealed. Every performer gets an announced entrance, the group numbers and solo spots run in order, and the grown-up audience has been briefed in advance on exactly when to make noise.

The feeling at the heart of this one is being cheered for by your friends. That is the whole design brief, and everything else in the night exists to make sure every child gets that moment in the form they can actually enjoy.

  • A themed welcome moment — A printable backstage pass to clip or tie on carrying their chosen stage name, a dressing-room spot with their name on it, and the tour poster revealed by the guest of honor.
  • Age-appropriate performance programme — A run of dance challenges, copy-the-move games, routine sections and rehearsal blocks building to the final show, pitched to the age edition you choose.
  • Food and drink ideas — Backstage catering that is easy to eat standing up, a green-room refuel between rehearsal and show, and a signature drink named for the headliner.
  • Experience Cards — Performance cards, dance challenge cards, freeze-and-pose cards, role cards for the backstage crew and set-list building cards.

Questions about Pop Star Dance Party

You use your own music, and we name no artists, songs, bands, labels or shows anywhere in the experience — partly because we will not use anyone else's names, and mostly because you know what your group actually loves this month and we would be guessing. What the plan gives you instead is the shape of the set list slot by slot: an opener everyone in the room already knows, something with a strong steady beat for teaching the routine, something slow for the middle, something deliberately silly, and a big closer with an obvious ending. You fill those slots from whatever you already have, and the plan includes guidance on checking lyrics for the age group before the night. Any speaker will do.

They are planned for from the very beginning, not accommodated on the night — and this is the part of the design we are proudest of. No child is ever put on the spot, assigned a solo or asked to perform alone; there are no solos in any edition unless a child asks for one. Every performance slot has a group option where nobody is exposed, and alongside the performing roles there are five backstage jobs with genuine authority: the choreographer teaches a section to the whole group, the DJ controls the music, the lighting crew runs the room, the hype crew runs the audience, and the photographer makes the pictures everybody wants afterwards. These are introduced with the same weight as the performing roles, chosen rather than allocated, and written into the host script so an adult never accidentally frames them as second best. In practice, most reluctant children take a crew role, stand at the edge of the group number by the third rehearsal, and are on stage by the show — but nothing in the evening requires that, and nobody comments if it does not happen.

Less than you would think. An ordinary front room with the sofa pushed back and the coffee table taken out gives you enough floor for six children in two rows, and the choreography is written for exactly that — formations that move sideways and change places rather than travelling across a hall. The plan includes a small-space version with the whole routine performed on the spot, and a wider version if you happen to have a garage, a garden or a hall. What matters more than square metres is clearing it properly: furniture to the walls, nothing breakable at arm's height, and grippy socks or bare feet rather than plain socks on a hard floor.

Yes, and the plan has a version written for exactly that. The loud block is scheduled early in the evening and given a firm finish time, so the noisy part is over before it becomes anybody else's problem. Beyond that, the quiet-flat version uses lower volume with the beat counted out loud by the host, choreography written flat rather than jumped — steps, arms, formation changes and poses instead of landings — and rugs down in the performance space. Several hosts run the rehearsal blocks on headphones with the music shared and only bring the speaker up for the show itself, which is about eight minutes of actual noise. Tell us at the questionnaire stage that you are in a flat and that is the version you receive.
